“I found delight as a child in football and magic tricks. The powerful lines and illusive color of drawing and painting reflect the physicality and mystery of my youthful passions. I try to approach the easel or sculpture with the zeal of a linebacker and the concentration of Houdini. Allowing that fervor to replace my thoughts and let instinct win over in the pursuit of Art, to reveal beauty and truth”.
A largely self-taught artist, Drew Davis was born in Sarasota, Florida but grew up & went to school in Northbrook, IL. His childhood interests included art, football and magic. His experience working with at risk teenagers in California for over 10 years led to art therapy work in counseling sessions and ultimately the launch of his adult art career. A close friend who worked in the field with Drew encouraged him in his cartooning for lectures with teens battling alcohol and substance abuse. A trip to the Alberto Giacometti exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco was an artistic revelation and Drew started to study painting, sculpture and figure drawing with artists such as Judy North in California and Erik Blome in Chicago.
Drew’s work has been exhibited in Galleries and Museums from California to Wisconsin. His work has been on display in the Office of Education, Washington D.C and the Museum on Deafness in Northbrook, IL. He is represented at Lemon Street Art Gallery in Kenosha, WI. He has worked with Art Encounter, a non-profit organization that brings art to prisoners, students and seniors in their locations for discussion and encounters. Drew has created original art for music CDs, judged international art shows and regularly sells his work to private collectors through galleries and boutiques. His lovely English wife, boy/girl twins and adoring Mastiff continue to inspire him in his 1930’s house in Waukegan, IL.
